Within the project “Housing and Income Generating Support to Refugees and IDPs in Serbia“, funded from the 2006 EU budget through the European Agency for Reconstruction, and implemented throughout 2007 and 2008, the construction of 50 housing units for integration of refugees is planned in municipalities Kovin and Svilajnac.  The contracts on the construction have been signed with the municipalities, the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia and implementing partners. The construction is to start in the forthcoming period by laying the corner stone.

 

The contracts on the construction of 37 housing units for social housing in supportive environment have been signed in Kragujevac and Nis within the project for the purpose of alternative accommodation for socially vulnerable IDP families and vulnerable domicile population.

 

Apart from housing construction, the implementation of several other project components have been planned; 43 village houses were bought for refugees, 25 building material sets were distributed for partial self-help, and 50 families were assisted with startup business sets up to 31 December, 2007 through the implementing partners in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia.
