A newly-built apartment building for the displaced from Kosovo and Metohija was officially opened in Jagodina on 17 December, 2007. The construction of the apartment building was funded by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) with the assistance of the Greek humanitarian non-governmental organization “European Perspective“ and the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia within the project “Social Housing in Supportive Environment“. The construction of 11 housing units started in 2007, and the value of construction works amounted to EUR 190, 000.
The keys of the apartments were handed over at the opening ceremony by the Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Dabetic, the representative of the Greek Embassy in the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Christos Capodiastrias and the mayor of Jagodina municipality, Mr. Dragan Markovic. Upon the approval of the Serbian Government, Jagodina municipality provided land with the connection to necessary infrastructure for the construction of the two-floor apartment building with 11 housing units (34 to 42 square meters). 9 families have been accommodated in these housing units, that is 34 persons, out of whom 15 children, from collective center “Kolare”. Out of 9 families who moved into the housing units, one is of Roma origin, a victim of violence with three children, two are single mothers, and the rest of the families have dependants with severe health problems. Two housing units are for socially vulnerable domicile families from the territory of that municipality.
