Project for construction of prefabricated houses in Krusedol - village

Krusedol – village- 26 June, 2008 This day is going to be one of the most significant days in the lives of eight refugee families. The project aims at the construction of prefabricated houses and is funded by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) and implemented by the Italian humanitarian organization INTERSOS. The funding is provided for the construction of 20 houses all around Serbia amounting to over EUR 160, 000.

There are two types of houses envisaged by the project:

-          Type 1 – 34 square meters, full construction

-          Type 2 – 48 square meters, so called semi-completed construction without electricity installations, fitted floors, inside plumbing, but substantially larger

Each house has a plot of land of 9.7 acres.

The president of the community Krusedol-village, Stanimir Radulovic, stated that he was very happy because 8 families solved their existential problem.

“We managed to fulfill the plan drafted 20 years ago not to let village disappear. The population of the village has to increase and this is the best way to accomplish that. The village has today only 500 inhabitants. Additional 90 plots of lad have been given to refugee families. If the state would give us these 120 hectares of not cultivated vineyards, Krusedol-village would live”, says the first man of the community.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Nikola Vukojevic, EAR Programme Manager, Ms. Martha Walsh, Toncek Tomic and Magda Belu from INTERSOS, deputy mayor of Irig municipality as well as other guests.
