On Thursday the 8th of July the chief of the delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Vincent Degert has together with the Commissioner for Refugees Mr. Vladimir Cucić, the Minister for Labour and Social Policy Mr. Rasim Ljajić, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Mr. Milan Marković and the representatives of the German, non-government organization ASB - Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, attended the formal opening ceremony of an appartement building in Medveđa at which he presented the keys of individual appartments to their recipients. The apparments were built using the resources of IPA for 2007.

By the building of 8 housing units intended for social housing in protected conditions, accomodations will be provided to 6 families of refugee and internally displaced persons and 2 socially vulnerable families from the territory of the municipality of Medveđa. The construction of the aforementioned housing units represents one of the components of the project, “Support to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in the Republic of Serbia,” the financial cost of which is noted as being 9.5 million Euros. The Project is being implemented by the Commissariat for Refugees and the German, non-governmental organization ASB – Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund.

The accomplishment of the aforementioned component referring to the project comes as the result of the exceptional level of cooperation existing amongst the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, the ASB and the municipality of Medveđa. The investment value of this particular component of the aforementioned project amounts to 140,386.37 Euros, while the municipality of Medveđa has provided the building plot and associated infrastructure and are actively participating in the implementation of the project’s activities.

The positive cooperation of the participants of the project is set to continue in 2010 and 2011 through the building and donation of 6 prefabricated housing units financed by the resources of the European Union through the IPA 2008 program, with which the municipality of Medveđa will, to a large extent, solve the housing concerns of the above mentioned category of persons.
