On Wednesday the 4th of August 2010, a ceremony was held to mark 15 years since the military – police action “Oluja,” which led to the deaths of large numbers of Serbian people. The memorial service held for the victims of “Oluja,” took place at the church of St. Mark in Belgrade and was hosted by the patriarch of the Serbian church his holiness Irenaeus.
The memorial service, besides the families of those killed, disappeared or displaced by the operation “Oluja,” which took place in the Republic of Croatia, was also attended by the highest functionaries of the Republic of Serbia: President Boris Tadić, Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabić, Commissioner for Refugees Vladimir Cucić and the President of the Commission on Missing Persons of the Government of RS Veljko Odalović.
As a reminder, the opperation launched by the Croatian army on the 4th August 1995 originating in the Republic of Croatia and targeting the Republic of Serbia, in the space of a few days, expelled some 200,000 Serbs, killed approximately 2,500 people and left close to 1,600 persons who are to this day still listed as missing and are unaccounted for.
