9th September 2010 – Inside of the City Administration building of Krusevac, an agreement of cooperation was signed in relation to the realization of the project, “Support for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in Serbia,” financed on behalf of the European Union out of the pre accession fund (IPA), which is to be implemented by the German, nongovernmental organization ASB. This agreement provisions for the construction of a building in the neighbourhood, “Rasadnik 1,” which will cover a total area of 400meteres squared and contain a total of 10 housing units together with one communally shared room. Out of the total number of apartments, 8 will be reserved for use by refugee and internally displaced families, while two apartments are planned for use by those considered as socially vulnerable cases hailing from the local community.
The value of the project is approximately 180,000 euros (the city will participate to the extent of 3,000 euros) and within its jurisdiction the local self government will provide the land for the construction site, communal infrastructure, will prepare the necessary technical documentation (licensing), submit the project for approval and fulfil other necessary functions. The selection of the future inhabitants of the constructed housing will be at the discretion of a special Commission comprised of the representatives of factions participating in the agreement and the UNHCR.
The agreement was signed by the major of the city of Krusevac Mr. Desimir Pavlović, the project coordinator (member of the ASB) Mr. Života de Luka, the director of the Centre for Social Work Mrs. Slađana Čabrić, and the representative of the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Petar Anđić.
It is expected that the project will be completed by the 31st of July 2011.
