Representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees, the city of Kragujevac and the Group 484 have signed an agreement concerning the construction of housing units intended for refugees and internally displaced persons

The assistant to the Commissioner, Mr. Ivan Gerginov, member of the city council of Kragujevac Mrs. Slavica Saveljić, the director of the Group 484 and the representative of the Centre for Social Employment Mr. Momir Borić, ceremonially signed an agreement in reference to the, “Project Supporting Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in Serbia,” which in conjunction with the National strategy for the resolution of question concerning refugees and internally displaced persons, calls on the Republic of Serbia to progressivly close the remaining Collective Centres while making provisions for improving the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons in the Republic of Serbia. The program is being instituted by the Group 484.

The program is being financed through the resources made available by EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia and amounts to approximately 4,2 million euros. The Commissariat for Refugees is intended as the utilizing institution within the scope and context of this Project.
The aforementioned project provisions for the construction of 15 housing units for the purpose of serving as social housing in protected conditions within the city of Kragujevac, intended for use by refugees, internally displaced persons and those considered as being part of the socially vulnerable population of the city of Kragujevac. Out of the total number of housing units, 12 are intended for use by refugees and internally displaced persons, while 3 housing units are reserved for use by the socially vulnerable persons and families from the local population.

The housing units will provide social housing in protected conditions to the socially vulnerable refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as to families currently being housed in Collective Centres, inadequate private accomodations, and to the socially vulnerable persons and families hailing from the local community. This form of social housing is in compliance with the Strategy for the Development of Social Protection in Serbia.

The investment value of building and equipping a building with a capacity of 15 housing units amounts to 251,000 euros. Of this total the city of Kragujevac has set aside 248,000 euros to be used for the purpose of constructing 10 housing units, as well as having provided the land upon which the construction is to take place, the supporting infrastructure and has enabled the building, once completed, to be connected to the infrastructural network of the city.
