Tuesday 12th October 2010 – In the presence of the municipal president of Gadžin Han Mr. Saša Đorđević, the assitant to the Commissioner for Refugees Mr. Ivan Gerginov and the representative of the German non-governmental organization ASB Mr. Ivan Marin, a building reserved for use by refugees and internally displaced persons was ceremonially opened in the city of Gadžin Han.
The housing units in question are intended for the purpose of providing accomodation solutions to 3 families of refugees and internally displaced persons along with one socially vulnerable family from the municipality of Gadžin Han.
Construction of the building is part of the EU project, “Support to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in the Republic of Serbia,” being implemented by the German non governmental organization ASB in cooperation with the Commessariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia and the municipality of Gadžin Han.
The Commissariat for Refugees in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, adhering to the National Strategy for the resolution of questions concerning refugees and internally displaced presons, has created the program of social housing in protected conditions to be used by the most vulnerable aspects of the two categories.
The European Union has donated a total of 77000 euros towards this project while the municipality of Gadžin Han has provided the building site, supporting infrastructure and has been actively engaged in the implementation of the project’s activities.
