The representatives of municipalities of Kuršumlija and Blace have ceremonially handed over the keys to 24 housing units intended for refugees and internally displaced persons

Wednesday the 3rd of November 2010 – In the presence of the Mr. Ivan Gerginov, the assistant to the Commissioner in matters of reception, return and integration, Mr. Goran Bojović, president of the municipality of Kuršumlija, Mr. Nebojša Milosavljević, president of the municipality of Blace and Mr. Elmir Bojadžić, the regional director of the German, non governmental organization ASB, two buildings intended for use as social housing in protected conditions and reserved for use by refugees and internally displaced persons from the municipal territories of Kuršumlija and Blace were ceremonially opened.

The two buildings which comprise 12 housing units each were built for the purpose of resolving the housing situation of 20 families of refugees and internally displaced persons and a further 4 socially vulnerable families from the municipal territories of Kuršumlija and Blace. 

The aforementioned housing units represent one of the components of the project, “Support for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in the Republic of Serbia,” being financed by the European Union by means of the IPA 2007 funds and which is being undertaken through the German, non governmental, humanitarian organization ASB in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia and the municipalities of Kuršumlija and Blace.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia in adherence to the National Strategy concerned with the resolution of issues facing refugees and internally displaced persons, has created the program of social housing in protected conditions to be used by the most vulnerable category of its beneficiaries.

The investment value of the buildings amounts to 398,600.00 euros while the municipalities of Kuršumlija and Blace have contributed to the project through the donation of the construction sites, the associated infrastructure and have actively participated in the implementation of the project’s activities.
