Friday the 5th of November 2010 – In the presence of the Commissioner for Refugees Mr. Vladimir Cucić, the chief of operations of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia Mr. Ferenc Simon, the president of the municipality of Negotin Mr. Vlajko Đorđević and the representative of the UNHCR Mrs. Angelita Cecere, the ceremonial opening of a building of 20 housing units intended as social housing in protected conditions was conducted.
The construction of this building in Negotin represents one of the components of the project, “Support to Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in Serbia,” financed through the IPA 2007 funds to the tune of 9.5 million euros.
This component of the project within the municipality of Negotin was completed by the implementing partner of the UNHCR in cooperation with the Housing Centre and the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia.
The Investment value of the project amounts to 378,000 euros while the municipality of Negotin has participated in the project by provisioning the appropriately equipped construction site and supporting infrastructure. Through the completion of this project, durable housing solutions have been made available for 16 families of refugee and internally displaced persons as well as for 4, socially vulnerable, local families.
Alongside the construction of these housing units for the purpose of providing social housing in protected conditions, social support is also being provided for the integration of refugee persons as well as support for the improvement of the living conditions of internally displaced persons being provided by the Centre for Social Employment and the building’s superintendent family.
