Belgrade the 13th of December 2010 – Mr. Ivan Gerginov, the Assistant to the Commissioner for matters concerning the reception, accommodation, return and the integration of refugees, together with the delegation of the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia, travelled to Belarus on an official visit at the request of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, which took place between the 8th and the 12th of December.  

The Delegation of the Commissariat for Refugees visited the headquarters of numerous international organizations which deal with the resolution of the problems ascribable to and associated with the migration. With the exception of the headquarters of the International Organization for Migration, the Assistant to the Commissioner Mr. Gerginov held discussions pertaining to the exchange of experiences in matters of migration with the heads of both the UNHCR and the UNICEF missions in Belarus. One of the key aspects of the visit was a visit which Mr. Gerginov, along with the Delegation paid to the graduates of the course, “Combating trafficking in human beings: System analysis, international cooperation and the ways of perfection of law-enforcement practice,” being held at the International Centre for Instruction in Matters Concerning Migration, which was founded by the International Organization for Migration in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.  Mr. Gerginov also participated in the ceremony of presenting certificates and diplomas to the participants of the international course, after which he was granted an in-depth insight into the workings and organization of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

Dialogue and discussion pertaining to technical cooperation were continued initially with Colonel Vasily Zorin and subsequently with the head of the Directorate for Migration and Citizenship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Mr. Alexei Begun, upon which occasion the dialogue further progressed towards matters concerning the exchange of experiences in relation to the topics of readmission, asylum seekers and the problems associated with refugees.
