Thursday 18th of January 2011 – The president of the municipality of Topola Mr. Dragan Jovanović, the assistant to the Commissioner for Refugees Mr. Ivan Gerginov, the director of the Centre for Social Employment Mrs. Nada Tanasijević and the manager of the ASB project Mr. Ivan Marin signed a contract in relation to the construction of 10 housing units intended for use as social housing within a supportive environment. The construction of these housing units will provide sustainable housing solutions for 8 families of refugee and internally displaced persons as well as for 2 socially vulnerable families from the territory of the municipality of Topola.

The value of the project in question amounts to 212,000 euros and is being financed using the resources provided by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, some 180,000 euros, while the remaining resources are being provided by the ASB and the municipality of Topola to the tune of 22,000 euros and 10,000 euros respectively. 

The aforementioned project has been conceptualized with the aim of further supporting the municipality of Topola as also the Republic of Serbia in the process of the integration of refugees and the improvement of the living conditions of internally displaced persons.

The process of selecting the future beneficiaries of these housing units is to be conducted by a joint commission comprised of the representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees, the UNHCR, Centre for Social Employment and the ASB.
