On Wednesday the 4th of August 2011, a ceremony was held to mark 16 years since the military – police action “Oluja”, which led to the deaths of large number of Serbian people. The memorial service held for the victims of “Oluja”, took place at the church of St. Mark in Belgrade and was held by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej.
The memorial service, besides the families of the missing, deceased or displaced persons during the operation “Oluja,” which took place in the Republic of Croatia, was also attended by the highest functionaries of the Republic of Serbia: President Boris Tadić, Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabić, Commissioner for Refugees Vladimir Cucić and the President of the Commission on Missing Persons of the Government of RS Veljko Odalović.
As a reminder, in a matter of a few days, during the operation launched by the Croatian army on the 4th August 1995, some 200,000 Serbs were exiled from the Republic of Croatia into the Republic of Serbia, approximately 2,500 people killed and more than 1,000 persons are missing until this day.
