Thursday, October 20, 2011 – The representatives of the UN Delegation to Serbia, the Commissariat for refugees of the Republic of Serbia, the City of Smederevo and a German NGO “HELP”, handed the keys of the 5 newly built pre-fabricated houses to beneficiaries in Smederevo. The project of building pre-fabricated houses was financed by the EU and implemented by a German NGO “HELP”, in cooperation with the City of Smederevo, the Commissariat for refugees of the Republic of Serbia and UNHCR.

This opportunity was used to visit some of the 24 families which were given building material for finalization or adaptation of housing units as a part of the same project.

In addition to improving the living conditions of refugees, internally displaced persons and local socially vulnerable citizens, the Project also supported establishment or development of 41 small enterprises. The purchase of equipment and materials for starting or developing their own business activities, basic entrepreneurial training and ongoing mentoring has enabled the most vulnerable unemployed to generate regular monthly income.
