Keys to 15 housing units in Kovin handed over to their respective beneficiaries

On Monday, the 30th of July 2012 the ceremony for the donation of 15 housing units for social housing in supportive environment took place in Kovin. The housing units in question will provide accomodation to 9 refugee families, 3 families of internally displaced persons and 3 local socially vulnerable families. The keys were formally presented by Mr. Adriano Martins, Deputy Head of  the EU Delegation in Serbia, Mrs. Danijela Popović-Rocco, Assistant to the Commissioner for General and Legal Issues and HR Affairs, Mr. Slavko Brankovic the President of municipality of Kovin and Mrs. Branislava Zarkovic Manager of the Housing Centre.

The building of the housing units for social housing within a supportive environment  carried a total investment value of 275,000 euros and was carried out under the auspices of the project, “Support  to the refugees and internally displaced persons in Serbia,” funded through the European Union and implemented by  Housing Center, the Commissariat for Refugees and the municipality of Kovin.

Through this project 12 refugee and internally displaced families accommodated in the, “Čardak,” collective centre and 3 local vulnerable families are being supported in improving their living conditions and moving into social housing within a  supportive environment in the Municipality of Kovin.

The Municipality of Kovin has proven to be a highly successful partner in this project, firstly through its donation of building plots, its preparation of the main project with all necessary  technical documantation , in providing the necessary infrastructure, funding  connections to the existing infrastructure network and in the involvement of a large team of experts.  The building  will be managed by the Center for Social Work of Kovin, which will be responsible for assuring its proper use.

The implementation of this as also previous projects within the municipality of Kovin has created  the conditions for the closure of the, “Čardak,” collective centre which still houses some 15 families.
