38 housing units for refugees and internally displaced persons in Pancevo, Kladovo and Raca

Representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, municipalities of Kladovo and Raca and the city of Pancevo and the Danish Refugee Council signed a contract on construction of 38 housing units, which will solve the housing needs of 30 families of refugees and internally displaced persons accommodated in Collective Centers "Karatas" in Kladovo , "Karadjordjev dom" in Raca and "Teritorijalna odbrana" in Pancevo and 8 families of socially vulnerable local population from the territory of the respective municipalities and cities.

The project for construction of housing units is financed by the European Union, Instrument for Pre-Accession Aid  for the year 2011 (IPA 2011), total value 6 million euros. The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration is the beneficiary of the funds while the project will be implemented by executive partner - Danish Refugee Council.

The total investment value of construction of residential units is approximately 650,000 euros. Municipalities of Kladovo and Raca and the City of Pancevo will provide significant technical and financial participation in this project in the form of provision building land, the entire infrastructure development and building permits.

The Republic of Serbia will be the owner of the housing units while the local self-government units will have the rights of use. Centers for Social Welfare  will be responsible for facilities management and will be responsible for their proper use.

351 refugees and internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija have been living for many years in collective centers "Karatas","Karadjordjev dom" and "Teritorijalna odbrana". Eight residential units are intended for socially vulnerable persons and families from the local community. The target groups are the most vulnerable individuals and families, such as: single mothers, families with persons with disabilities and chronic illnesses, the elderly without family support and other families in danger.

The construction of 15 apartments in Pancevo, Raca and 8 apartments in Kladovo will provide dignified housing solutions for the users of collective centers and create the conditions for the closure of collective centers.
