Results of CBMM project have been presented on the final conference

Belgrade, 26th of February 2013 - Representatives of the EU Delegation in Serbia, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the International Organization for Migration in Serbia presented the results of a two-year project Capacity Building of Institutions of the Republic Of Serbia Involved in Migration Management and Reintegration of Returnees, CBMM, on the final conference entitled Improving framework for migration management in the Republic of Serbia at the National Assembly.

CBMM project, total value 2 million euros, funded by the European Union through the IPA pre-accession funds of 1.8 million together with the International Organization for Migration through their Development Fund (150,000 euros) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (15,000 euros) provided significant support to the development and improvement of the system of migration management in Serbia. As pointed out by the Head of EU Delegation in Serbia, HE Vincent Degert, it is extremely important that the project helped the national and local institutions comply with EU standards in the field of migration management and the reintegration of returnees which contributes largely to the success of the whole process of European integration of Serbia and the strengthening of partnerships between the European Union and the countries on the EU accession road. Speaking about the results of the two-year project, the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Vladimir Cucic pointed out the importance of support which European Union gave to this project and similar initiatives, and highlighted the efforts that have invested institutions of the Republic of Serbia in the improvement of the institutional and legal framework for migration management in Serbia.

Among other results , the project, which has been implemented in five components for two years ,  helped transform the Commissariat for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia into Commissariat for Refugees and Migration through the development of numerous analyzes of the legal and institutional framework in Serbia and their harmonization with the EU acquis . It is established regularly publishing of study "Migration Profile of the Republic of Serbia", which will be updated and published every year, the exchange of data on migration is regulated by the Law on migration management, more than thirty trainings were hold for representatives of institutions both at the central and local level, and migration councils are institutionalized and incorporated into the national system of migration management.

At the municipal level the process of local action planning is in progress which for the first time includes the needs of returnees under readmission agreements, while institutions dealing with migration have adopted a broader picture of the EU acquis and obtained more information regarding the protection of migrants rights. The academic community, the media and civil society participated in the discussions on the topic of migration in Serbia and at the same time improved collaboration with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia. The results of research on attitudes toward migrant groups were for the first time presented to the public and were used to create a media campaign on the theme of migration and the needs of the migrants themselves, which was carried out through the social network.

CBMM project was jointly implemented by the International Organization for Migration in Serbia and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.
