Representatives of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Serbia, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, the city of Smederevo and the German NGO HELP, handed the refugees and displaced persons in Smederevo keys of newly built prefabricated houses.

 

Construction of prefabricated houses was financed by the European Union, pre-accession funds, and implemented by German non-governmental organization HELP, in collaboration with the city of Smederevo, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the UNHCR.

 

This European Union donation in the amount of 760.000 euros enabled permanent housing for 42 families of the most vulnerable refugees and IDPs in collective center "ORA Radinac" and their eventual integration into the local community. In addition, living conditions were improved for the nine local disadvantaged families.

Thanks to the support of the European Union, 176 refugees and internally displaced persons fled a camp in Smederevo and continued to live in dignified conditions.
