Forty families in Belgrade receive keys to new apartments

Twenty-nine families of refugees and eleven families of internally displaced persons in collective centers in Belgrade received the keys to their new apartment in Veliki Mokri Lug.
Due to the EU project "Support to the improvement of living conditions and employment rights of refugees and internally displaced persons in Serbia" 40 families are provided with sustainable solution.

This project is financed by European Union funds in the amount of 660.000 euros, and co-funded and implemented by UNHCR. The total value of the two newly constructed buildings and installed equipment for household costs 750.000 euros.
Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, as the institution responsible for meeting the housing needs of refugees and internally displaced persons, has provided financial support of the European Union to support the most effective way to address the housing needs of this population. City of Belgrade donated the land and infrastructure and has invested more than 150.000 euros in additional construction work. The project was implemented in cooperation with NGO Vision and Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.

The concept of "Social Housing in Supportive Environment" is entered in the Development and Social Protection Strategy of the Republic of Serbia and is rated as the best and most appropriate solution for people who are still living in collective centers. This concept provides housing for the most vulnerable groups in need of additional help of local centers for social work. To date, the concept of "Social Housing in Supportive Environment" was implemented in 42 municipalities in Serbia, where were built 931 residential units - 511 of them from the European Union funds.
Occupants at 22 and 24 Vladimir Ćorović street in Veliki Mokri Lug shall have the right to use the flats as long as they are in need. According to the concept of the project, each building will have host family whose role will be to act as a link between residents and the Centre for Social Work in Belgrade, and provide them with the necessary additional support.
