Construction of prefabricated houses in Bela Palanka will start soon

On Tuesday 21 May 2013. the Municipality of Bela Palanka, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and Danish Refugee Council signed a contract to build two prefabricated homes for beneficiaries of the collective center in Bela Palanka.

Construction of prefabricated houses is part of the project "Support to the implementation of strategies for IDPs, refugees and returnees in Serbia", financed by the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Serbia and will contribute to the closure of collective center "Hotel ES and Remizijana".

European Union Delegation to the Republic of Serbia has provided funding for this project which is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council with support from Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.

Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia has recognized the needs of the most vulnerable families accommodated in collective centers in Serbia and provided an agreement with the European Union, as a donor, to solve the housing problems of the most vulnerable families in the collective center in Bela Palanka.

The municipality of Bela Palanka provided the lot, appropriate infrastructure, and as the investor acquired the necessary technical documentation for the construction of two residential units in the form of prefabricated buildings. In this way, the two most vulnerable families of refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees, accommodated in collective centers "Hotel ES and Remizijana" in Bela Palanka, will be supported in improving living conditions through housing.

All beneficiary families will be identified through a selection process conducted by the Joint Commission for the selection (consisting of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, UNHCR, the municipality of Bela Palanka and Danish Refugee Council) based on pre-defined, accepted and published criteria.

The municipality of Bela Palanka will sign the contract with the selected beneficiaries. These contracts will provide for the selected beneficiaries and members of their households using the facilities free of charge (except for current expenses), which will be effective until providing conditions for a permanent solution to the housing problems of selected users. Danish Refugee Council will define with special contracts the conditions for funding connections to water and electricity supply systems with selected users.
