Collective center "Barracks Ratko Mitrovic " will be closed after eleven internally displaced families who stay in it, yesterday received the keys to their new , prefabricated houses . These eleven families have made a lasting solution through the EU project "Support to the implementation of strategies for IDPs , refugees and returnees in Serbia".
The project for construction of prefabricated houses is one of the four components financed by the European Union pre-accession funds . The total value of EU grant for this component is 160,000 euros. UNHCR has co-financed the project and participated in the selection of beneficiaries. Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia , as the institution responsible for meeting the housing needs of refugees and internally displaced persons, proposed this project to the European Union , participated in the selection of beneficiaries and worked closely with all stakeholders in the implementation of the project.
Municipality of Pozega provided assistance in obtaining zoning requirements , building permits and other required documentation, and provide technical supervision of infrastructure works and construction of prefabricated houses . The project was implemented in cooperation with NGO Vision and Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia .
Prefabricated houses have proven to be a suitable solution for vulnerable IDP families that own plot but not the capacity to carry out construction work or the means to build a house on that land . Eleven selected families ( 42 individuals) residing in the refugee camp " Barracs Ratko Mitrovic" will now move into a house measuring 34m2 and 48m2 , which will be owned by them .
The project "Support to the implementation of strategies for IDPs , refugees and returnees in Serbia" , financed from pre-accession EU funds worth a total of EUR 1.400.000 contains four components: the construction of prefabricated houses , housing within the concept of "Social Housing in supportive environment", the distribution of construction material and distribution of grants for economic empowerment throughout Serbia . The project will give assistance to 167 families and four collective centers in Serbia will be closed.
Collective center "Barracks Ratko Mitrovic" was founded in 1992. In the period 2009-2012. three programs of integration were conducted and 68 families ( 302 persons) were accommodated. The collection center will be closed after the implementation of this component.
