Enhanced cooperation between Serbia and Hungary in the field of asylum

Representatives of the Office of Immigration and Citizenship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Hungary were in a five-day visit to the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia. The aim of the visit was improving the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of asylum. Bearing in mind that both Serbia and Hungary are on the same migratory route that uses a large number of migrants on their way to Western Europe, cooperation between the two countries in this field is of great importance both for prevention of illegal migration and in providing an adequate response in terms of accommodation capacities in case of an increased influx of migrants.

A four-member Hungarian delegation visited Belgrade with the aim of implementing a joint project between the two countries funded by the European Commission, which should improve the asylum system of the Republic of Serbia and the exchange of experiences in this field.

Bearing in mind the necessity to harmonize asylum systems of Serbia with positive practices of EU member states, the recommendations and experiences of Hungarian colleagues will be of great benefit to employees at the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration in the process of fulfilling conditions for joining Serbia the European Union.
