School of International Humanitarian Law in Belgrade

The most eminent experts on human rights from San Remo, led by Professor Fausto Pocar, president of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo and the judge of the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague, held a four-day seminar designed for representatives of the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, international community and non-governmental organizations.

Oxford University professors, experts of the International Organization for Migration, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and UNICEF, brought a recent experience in the field of migration management and protection of migrants rights in the context of border control and the practice of receiving, combating human trafficking, protection of trafficking victims, rights of migrants, assisted voluntary return, jurisprudence of the European Court of Human rights on the rights of migrants and asylum, protection of children migrants and the harmonization of national legislation with EU legislation.

 

 

The seminar was jointly organized by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Federal Office for Migration of Swiss Confederation, in collaboration with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, with the support of UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration.

On the last day of the seminar awarding of diplomas was organized.  Diplomas were awarded by Vladimir Cucić, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, HE Jean-Daniel Ruch, Swiss Ambassador to Serbia, and Stefania Baldini, Secretary General of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo.

The importance of the seminar is great at the time when the Republic of Serbia is committed to improving the system of comprehensive migration management and meeting the requirements of chapter 23, relating to the judiciary and fundamental rights, and chapter 24 - Justice, freedom and security in the EU accession process.
