From 2 till 4 December 2013 Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and Technical Assistance Information Exchange Instrument of the European Commission (TAIEX) organized a three-day expert mission - Alignment with the acquis in the field of asylum and migration, which was attended by representatives of Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration.

Bearing in mind that the positive decision of the European Council on the opening of accession negotiations between Serbia and the European Union started the most important phase of the accession process, the Republic of Serbia should be prepared to adequately implement the necessary reforms and adopt growing framework of common rules.

Expert mission brought together relevant experts of the Member States of the European Union, who presented innovations in the field, and representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Ministry of Interior, who will participate in the negotiations on Chapter 24 (freedom, justice and security) which, together with Chapter 23, will be the first to be open during negotiations.

The main objective of the expert mission was to provide an analytical overview of the EU acquis and prepare Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Ministry of Interior in the process of analytical review of legislative alignment with the acquis of EU. Special attention was paid to issues related to migration, asylum and visa policy. Experts from Belgium and Romania have pointed to possible obstacles in negotiations on Chapter 24 and offered recommendations to overcome them.
