The representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Interior visited the Office of Citizenship and Immigration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Hungary on 20 and 21 February 2014.
This visit is part of a joint project between the two countries, funded by the European Commission, which aims to improve the asylum system of the Republic of Serbia and the exchange of experiences in this field.
This study visit contributed to the exchange of experiences in the field of regulation of the legal status of aliens.
A six-member delegation from Serbia was informed about migration trends in Hungary, the legislation and the treatment of foreigners. Also, they visited asylum center in Balassagyarmat.
Bearing in mind that Serbia and Hungary are on the same migratory route used by a large number of migrants on their way to Western Europe, cooperation between the two countries in this field is of great importance.
This visit and continuation of the project are of great importance, especially when it comes to the necessity of harmonizing asylum system of the Republic of Serbia with the practices of EU member states.
