The European Union with 14 million EUR helps improve the living conditions of forced migrants

On Wednesday 9 April 2014 in Pančevo was signed Memorandum of Understanding. This memorandum establishes cooperation in providing housing solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees under the readmission agreement which are accommodated in collective center "Centar TO Pancevo". In this way the beginning of the project "For a better life" was formally marked. This project is funded by the European Union and project users are Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations, Office for Kosovo and Metohija of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in the amount of 14.2 million EUR.

Parties - City of Pancevo, Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations of the Republic of Serbia, Center for Social Work of the City of Pancevo and the Danish Refugee Council, accepted the responsibility to jointly develop and implement a project component related to social housing in protected conditions and to ensure the conditions for the successful implementation of the project components. This document is important because it determines closer the goal of the project, property and facility management, purpose, members and terms of beneficiary selection and host of social housing, as well as other important provisions for adequate and appropriate management of the facility.

The project "For a Better Life" provides solutions for social housing for people who are accommodated in collective centers in Pancevo, Sabac, Kragujevac, Raca, Kladovo, Bela Palanka, Bujanovac, Vranje and Belgrade, sustainable return and assisting internally displaced persons who chose to return to Kosovo (about 220 families), adequate conditions for the integration of refugees and to improve living conditions of internally displaced persons and reintegration of returnees under the Readmission Agreement in municipalities Arilje, Batočina, Bojnik, Kula, Ruma, Sombor, Topola, Vranje and Vrbas, in accordance with pre-established local action plans.

There will be financed 15 projects with a period of implementation between 12 and 24 months.
