On Monday 4 August 2014, nineteen years since the pogrom of the Serbian people, as a result of the Croatian military and police operation "Storm", will be marked. Memorial service for the victims of the "Storm" will be held at St. Marks Church in Belgrade on 4 August at 11:00.
As a reminder, during the Croatian army action, which began on 4 August 1995, from the Republic of Croatia, for a few days, more than 200,000 Serbs were expelled to the Republic of Serbia and about 2,500 people were killed. Nineteen years after this tragic event about 2,000 people are still missing.
Today, unfortunately, Serbia is the country with the biggest number of refugees and internally displaced persons in Europe and one of the five countries in the world with a protracted refugee situation. Out of 610,000 refugees, who in 1991 sought refuge in the Republic of Serbia, 43 763 people still have the status of refugees, of which 32,371 are from the Republic of Croatia.
