In September commenced EU funded IPA 2013 Twinning Project „Support to the National Asylum System in the Republic of Serbia“, implemented by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia in the partnership with the Swedish Migration Agency as a lead partner and the Ministry of Security and Justice, Integration and Naturalization Service of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Slovenia as junior partners.

The purpose of the Project is to improve capacity for implementation of asylum policies in line with the international and EU standards concerning both procedure and reception conditions and to reduce the number of unfounded asylum applications from Serbian nationals. One of the components of the Project is dedicated to the development and implementation of public information campaign aiming at informing public on the rights, obligations and problems of asylum seekers in Serbia as well as Serbian potential asylum seekers in EU.

The project, which will be implemented over the next two years, was proposed by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia. It will be funded by the European Union amounting to three million euros under IPA 2013.

The implementation of the components of the project will further improve the quality of procedures to be applied when making decisions on asylum applications, provide improved access to the rights of those persons who have been granted protection, to achieve complete harmonization of national legislation with the EU acquis and fulfill the conditions set forth in sections 23 and 24 for Serbia accession to the EU.
