Mr. Lars Vestbrat, State Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Migration Morgan Johanson, paid a daylong visit to Serbia, which was aimed at improving bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of migration.
During his visit, Mr. Vestbrat met with Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Vladimir Cucić. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Sweden in Serbia, HE Christer Asp, Deputy Ambassador Liselot Agerlid, Director of the Department for International Cooperation of the Swedish Migration Agency Monika Vendlebi, Deputy Commissioner Svetlana Velimirović and Assistant Commissioner for Legal Matters Danijela Popović Rocco.
The meeting was held to exchange information and experiences between the two countries in the field of care for the increased number of migrants recorded by the Republic of Serbia as a transit country, as well as the Kingdom of Sweden as a country of destination.
Mr. Vestbrat commended the efforts made by the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration while providing the necessary assistance to migrants in transit and protect their rights and familiarized the participants with the Swedish model of action in similar situations.
During the meeting they highlighted the need for a coherent European response to the challenges posed by more intense migratory flows and the necessity of cooperation between the countries of transit and countries of destination in order to achieve a more comprehensive response to the new challenges.
