Belgrade, 10 December 2015 - In the last eight months, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia is making huge efforts to ensure the passage for hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing Middle East and Africa.
On that route, which has passed so far more than half a million people, including thousands of children, we have successfully responded to the challenge in terms of humanity and security. The EU and the whole world has recognized our effort. The citizens of Serbia can be, and they are, proud of how the state deals with migrant crisis.
But, for us, the largest prize is gratitude from migrants themselves. Authorities in Serbia treat them humanely, they told Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic yesterday in the Reception center in Šid.
Sasa Jankovic said "devoted and dedicated people" are working at the field, "but they are few in number". Therefore, we are looking forward to having a meeting with ombudsman and hear suggestions from him how we can reach better coordination and organization of work with the existing staff and financial resources.
It is too strong to say that the conditions in the Recepetion center in Šid are hardly "below minimum". In there, migrants can find a warm room, bed, medical care, blankets and food. If several dirty toilets, which are used daily by hundreds of migrants, are the most important observation, and if someone can not see anything good that has been done for these people, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration calls on those who have such objections to provide constructive and well-intentioned suggestions, which would contribute to the improvement of conditions.
