Požarevac, 16 December 2015 - Mayor of Požarevac, representative of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and representative of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a contract on the construction of 13 prefabricated houses in the municipality of Kostolac.

Thirteen prefabricated houses will be built within the project "Support to the improvement of living conditions of forced migrants and the closure of collective centers" funded by the European Union, Delegation to the Republic of Serbia from IPA funds for 2012.

The project aim is to foster the social inclusion of vulnerable persons and families of internally displaced persons accommodated in informal collective centers "Stari Kostolac" and "Kombinat Kostolac" in Požarevac.

City of Požarevac will provide the necessary infrastructure and quality location in the municipality of Kostolac, all planning documents and  urban permits.

Commissariat for Refugees and Migration coordinates the process of closing collective centers. The project is implemented by UNHCR in partnership with the NGO Vision.

Thirteen  beneficiary families, of which 11 internally displaced families and two local vulnerable families, will have the right to use the houses, but not to purchase them.

After the construction of houses, a total of 13 households will have conditions for a quality life. The houses will be equipped with basic equipment and furniture.

The total value of the works and equipping the house is around 250,000 euros. Completion is planned for the end of December 2015.

This project is part of a broader program funded by the European Union, supporting the improvement of living conditions of forced migrants - "For a Better Life" with a total value of 14.2 million euros.
