On 14 September 2016, the Round Table “Roles and responsibilities in the process of capacity enhancement and provision of the response to migration challenges” was organized within the Project “Enhancement of migration response capacities in Serbia” funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Serbia and implemented by Danish Refugee Council Serbia.

The Round Table brought together the representatives of the key institutions dealing with mixed migration in Serbia including Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs and Commissariat for Refugees and Migration. The participants of the panel were as well the representatives from local Migration Councils involved in the Project, UNHCR, implementing agencies involved in the humanitarian response in Serbia, local civil society organisations and other interested parties.

All participants had an opportunity to share thoughts and experiences on the process of enhancing the capacities in charge for migration management in Serbia, especially in relation to the identified needs and activities to be envisaged by Local Action Plans. The roles and responsibilities of all relevant governmental and non-governmental stakeholders were in the spotlight of the event. During the panel, the significance of the sensitization of the local community was also the subject of the discussion.
Conclusions and recommendations from the panel were presented by the guest moderator and would serve for the purpose of sound planning of future activities related to the enhancement of capacities subjects directly involved in the migration management.

The local self-governments involved were also supported with the donation of the computer equipment intended to help the Migration Councils to continue their work on the development and realization of the Local Action Plans for mixed migration groups.
As noted by the Round Table participants, this capacity building project would set many good practices with dealing with migratory groups, as well as strengthen the network of local, national and civil society stakeholders.
