The Center for asylum in Krnjača opened three reconstructed barracks, with the capacities for 200 migrants. The capacities are being expanded and reconstructed in oder to be ready for the upcoming winter in case of prolonged staying of migrants in Serbia.
With about 300.000 US dolars, reconstruction of facilities was helped by the NGO CRS and „Ana i Vlade Divac“ Foundation.
CA Krnjača has now room for 800 migrants. By the end of October three additional barracks will be reconstructed. When completed there will be room for another 170 people, and the value of investment is around 220.000 US dolars.
Danijela Popovic Rocco, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees, said during the press conference held in front of one of reconstracted barracks, that until last year, Commissariat for Refugees and Migration has managed five permanent centers for asylum, namely Krnjača, Bogovađa, Banja Koviljača, Sjenica and Tutin.
„Due to the increased influxof migrants, we opened additional reception-tranzit centers. Capacity of the permanent asylum centers is approximately 2000 beds. In the transit-reception centers we have additional 4000 beds,“ said Popovic Rocco.
