Work on the construction of 235 apartments for refugees in the Belgrade suburb Ovča has made a significant progress. Construction workers in the site are working at full speed. According to plan, four buildings should be completed by the end of 2017.
Apartments in Ovča are constructed within the third sub-project of the Regional Housing Project of the Republic of Serbia for refugee families from BiH and Croatia with a permanent residence in Belgrade.
The foundation stone was laid on 9 September 2016. A ceremony was attended by Mr. Ivica Dačić, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Government Commission for the Permanent Integration of Refugees, Mr. Vladimir Cucic, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia H.E. Michael Davenport, the US ambassador in Serbia Mr. Kyle Scott and many other ambassadors of donor countries.
Value of the Ovča Project is 9.8 million EUR. Of that amount, 5.4 million have been provided from the RHP Fund, where the largest donor is EU, while the second part is funded by the City of Belgrade.
The contractor is “Zlatibor gradnja” and design and supervision are managed by CIP Institute.
Regional Housing Programme has been implemented for several years in Croatia, BiH, Serbia and Montenegro, and aims to provide housing solutions for most vulnerable refugees from the former Yugoslavia. Housing solutions should be provided for 27.000 refugee families, of which 16.700 in Serbia.
