State of Serbia does not buy houses for migrants

Serbia has not earmarked from the budget some 320 million dinars to improve the living conditions of migrants. Also, it does not intend to provide migrant families with 200,000 dinars for starting a business, nor to provide 1.4 million for the purchase of rural houses, as it was stated completely inaccurately in a daily newspaper.

Reality is that the government at its session held on 17 March 2017 adopted the By-law on Regulation on the Implementation Program of incentives for the implementation of measures and activities necessary for achieving the stated objectives in the field of migration management for 2017, which earmarked for the local self-government units 288 million for internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija, 20 million for returnees under the readmission agreements (our citizens repatriated from EU countries) and 12 million for local self-governments where there are centers for asylum, in order to ease the burden of the migrant crisis.

Commissariat for Refugees and Migration notes that all migrants in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, who have expressed intention, are accommodated in asylum and reception centers, and that in the centers in question they are provided with everything they are entitled in line with the Law on asylum. We also remind that Serbia for migrants is almost never the final destination, and in line with that there is no need for the abovementioned housing solutions, nor are they provided by law.
