Republic of Korea Donates Another Million for Migrants in Serbia

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Cho Hyun visited the reception center in Krnjaca, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia Svetlana Velimirovic, Representative of the UNHCR in Serbia, Hans F. Schodder, State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Negovan Stankovic, Deputy Director of Medical Center Palilula Igor Dimitrijev, and representatives of the Danish Council for Refugees.

Cho Hyun said that Serbia, together with the UN organizations, has been working hard to meet the challenge of migrant crisis. He pointed out that Korean government donated $1.5 million since 2015 for the humanitarian relief effort in Serbia and announced a new donation of $1 million.

The grant of the Republic of Korea enabled financing of medical teams in local primary health care centers, medical services and equipment, supplies and medications in ten asylum and reception centers in Serbia.

“Regarding the health care of migrants, the law stipulates that each person entering a reception center undergoes a medical check-up and that must be respected. On the other hand, it is necessary to provide full and adequate health care to everyone in the reception centers, for their own benefit as well as for the benefit of the citizens of our country,” Svetlana Velimirovic said.
