Minister Vulin and Commissioner Cucic Visited the Asylum Center in Krnjaca for the International Migration Day

On the 17th of December, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and President of the Working Group for solving the problem of mixed migration flow Aleksandar Vulin accompanied by Commisioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic visited the asylum center in Krnjaca in order to mark the International Migration Day.

On behalf of the Government of Serbia, Minister Vulin thanked the European Union, and all government and nongovernment organizations for their support in the challenges pertaining to the migration crisis. He also thanked the citizens of Serbia for demonstrating understanding and humanitarian approach toward migrants.

He emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Serbia has the migratory crisis under control and pays special attention to the rights of each and every child.

Around 4100 migrants are currently located in Serbia, while 98% of them are accommodated in the reception centers throughout the country, which proves that Serbia takes care of these people in the best possible manner, said Vulin.

"Nearly none of these people wish to remain in Serbia. They are ready to continue their journey elsewhere. However, as long as they are on our territory, we will treat them as human beings. Not only will they be offered food and accommodation, but we will also make sure that they feel dignified,“ Minister concluded.

Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic said that, even though data suggests the decreasing trend in the migration flow, it is certain that this will constitute a long term process.  Migration crisis is a challenge that Serbia confronted in a humanly manner.

"We have accepted these people in ragged clothes, with lice, nearly frozen. When you look at these beautiful, young men and women now, you can see that they are waiting to resume their journey in more than adequate conditions, bearing in mind that 95-98% of them wish to continue further.  We may be truly proud of the results Serbia achieved in this process," Cucic said.

UNHCR Representative John Jang announced that UNHCR will continue to help the Government of Serbia in solving the migration crisis.
