Music and dance for migrant children in Divljana with the support of the EU

Manifestation entitled "Tradition of Serbia, Iraq and Afghanistan, through dance and creativity", was organized in the reception center "Divljana" within the European Union support for migration management in Serbia.

The national folklore of Afghanistan, as well as traditional dances from Macva and Knjazevac, were perfomed for migrant children who enjoyed songs and dancing both from their native countries and Serbia.

The performances of the youngest, dressed in national costumes, brought joy on the faces of the children in the audience who enjoyed the music and dance of their home countries. Children from Iraq and Afghanistan were singing children’s songs in Serbian, English and Persian, while one of the girls from Afghanistan sang a famous song from her homeland.

Regional Coordinator for South Eastern Serbia of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, Slobodan Savovic, reminded that there are currently 350 migrants at the three reception centers: "Divljana" near Bela Palanka, Pirot and Dimitrovgrad.

"There are a lot of children among them, only in "Divljana" out of 87 migrants, 43 are children, and we’ve seen at today’s event that all children react the same when it comes to music and dance," said Savovic.

The visitors also had the opportunity to see an exhibition of hand-made items and national costumes prepared by women from the "Divljana" reception center.
