Commissioner Cucic and Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia visited the Municipality of Sid

The Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic together with the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Mateja Norcic Štamcar, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Sid Zoran Semenovic, representatives of the state and the U.N. agencies, visited the Municipality of Sid within the framework of the European Union support to migration management in the Republic of Serbia.

High officials first visited the reception center in Adasevci, where 269 migrants currently reside, of which 49 families, who are daily provided the assistance in accommodation, food, healthcare, education and enabled the quality and comfortable stay with the continued support of the EU as the largest donor of the Republic of Serbia in migration management.

Commissioner Cucic reminded of the time when over eleven thousand people and two hundred buses a day arrived at the reception center and pointed out that the current situation is a step towards the final decision of the migrants to continue their journey, return home, or stay in Serbia.

"The EU supports Serbia in its efforts to provide adequate services since the beginning of the increased inflow of migrants. With almost 100 million euros, the European Union is the largest donor," emphasized Mateja Norcic Stamcar.

Representatives of the EU Delegation, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, the UN agencies and the Municipality of Sid visited elementary school "Branko Radicevic", where the EU funded the set up of public lights. They also visited Health Center "Sid" where a medical vehicle was delivered, as well as elementary school "Vuk Karadzic" where furniture and study equipment were donated.

This school is attended both by local and migrant children and today they celebrated the International Family Day with a joint action by parents of local and migrant children – fathers were helping refurbish classrooms while mothers prepared typical dishes from Srem and the countries from which the migrants have come.
