On May 4 and 5, 2018, percussion workshops for young migrants were held in reception centers in Presevo and Pirot and youth from local NGOs.
The participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with various types of percussion, ways of creating sound and rhythm, and to express their creativity using music.
Trainer Dragoljub Djuricic, one of the most experienced professional drummers in the Balkans, familiarized the students with the basic concepts of rhythm and its application and existence not only in music, but also in every sphere of life. Also, the young people were given the opportunity to learn and feel what the pace is and what the rhythm is, and to get an impression of the significance of the rhythm and its harmony in a certain composition. In the end, the participants created their musical compositions and their arrangements.
Melika (22) from Iran says this was a phenomenal experience and never played on percussion before, that this day pushed away everything that everyday life of migrant life brings to her and made them relaxed. At the same time, it was an opportunity to spend a day in a different manner, to learn something new and hang out with peers.
The workshops were conducted in the scope of the European Union Support to Migration Management in the Republic of Serbia.
