Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucić addressed the 13th Plenary Session of the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly which took place in the Serbian Parliament today.
The Commissioner presented the current situation in the field of migration, the response of the Republic of Serbia to the increased influx of migrants in the previous period, the Global Compact on Migration and future directions, and the main challenges when it comes to migration faced not only by Serbia, but also by the Mediterranean countries.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of a unique regional approach in addressing this issue, since migration is a global phenomenon and, as such, its management requires a unified and coordinated approach.
He called on parliamentarians to monitor and implement the obligations that governments of the countries which signed the Global Compact on Migration accepted, in accordance with their competences.
